20 Hour Famine

40 hour famine, which is on Friday 6th June. The year 5-8 extension class will be participating in this activity but instead we will be doing the 20 hour famine. Last year, world vision focused on Mali and Niger. This year though, they are focusing on Bougainvillea, Papua New Guinea. For the 40 hour famine they have celebrity teams that will battle it out, to get the most sponsors as well as the most people on their team. Hopefully, these celebrities will remember the main reason that they are doing this. To help the people in Bougainvillea.

We start the famine at 12:00 and ends at 10:00 am. So, to make sure no one has dinner at home we always plan a sleepover at school. That's one of my favourite things when we do the famine. Last year, was AWESOME. Not only because I was the team leader for blue but me and a few friends planned the whole sleepover. We planned fun activities. One of them was an Amazing Race. It was quite funny because people couldn't find their clues. Anyway, then to top it off we watch a movie in the library. Then its sleep time. I sooo can’t wait for this years sleepover.

If we aren't doing the famine online then we receive a booklet. We record who gave us money and who the sponsor is from. Then when we finish the famine, we go back to our sponsors and ask for the money. Sometimes they can give you the money straight away. My booklet has been filled up with friends and families sponsoring me. I am so happy I have received $165.10. Although its not much, I know that just getting money has helped the people in Bougainvillea.

The famine is going to happen and I hope I won't be starving. This is going to go for a good cause. So everyone, GO HARD OUT FOR THE HUNGRY!!!!
