Whats Really In Your Eggs- Report

REPORT- Chickens And Eggs

Percentage Of How Many Eggs Are Laid:
New Zealanders eat approximately 920,000,000 eggs per year. 89% of it is produced by caged chickens while 9% is produced by free ranged chickens. The left that is remaining is laid by barn chickens which is 2%.

Protein:
Eggs are high in protein as well as cholesterol. Although it is high in cholesterol, it is low in saturated fat which is bad for your health. One egg has half of the b12 vitamin that we need each day. Cooked eggs will give you more protein than raw eggs. Also most of the protein is found in the yolk.

Caged Chickens:
Caged chickens produce the most because they are forced to lay them. Chickens are put into groups of six and then put into a cage. The cages lack space. It is difficult for chickens to stay on the cage as the cages are on an angle. This is to help the eggs come down on the convey about.

Free Ranged Chicken:
Free ranged chickens have more space than caged chickens. They can flap their wings, perch, run around and dust bath. Dust bathing is a chickens version of having a shower. They dust bath to take the mites and bugs that live in their feathers.

Barn Chickens:
Barn chickens are cage free. There still bunched up like caged chickens though but they are able to flap their wings, perch and dust bath like free ranged chickens. Its difficult for them though to run around as for the lack of space.

Eggs:
There isn’t a nutritional difference when it comes to white and brown eggs. Eating an egg is easy for our body to digest. Salmonella is a food poisoning. It has never been found in New Zealand eggs though. Did you know NZ eats about 2 and a half million eggs a day?
