Life Without A Netbook

In the olden day’s (last year), I use to work with a pencil and a book. No one would see my writing, so what was the point?

This year our Pt.England students from years 5-8 can work with their netbook. Netbooks help our learning and let’s us share it with the world. With out it, learning would be dull.

Somethings I like this year about my netbook is that it is easier to research with. You don’t have to look at books to find things out. Having full time access to the internet also means it’s easier for me to share my learning on my own blog.

I have to say though, there are some things I don’t like though. Sometimes the Internet goes very slow. That’s because everyone else with their netbook is on it. I also wish they could improve the drawing application, it is so babyish.

If the netbook pilot in Glen Innes failed then I would feel disappointed. A netbook has changed our learning in many ways. One way that our netbook has helped us is that, most of us have gone up in writing.

One Of My Favourite Poems

One of my favourite poems were written by a man named Kenn Nesbitt. It is called, Our Teacher Sings The Beatles.

Our teacher sings The Beatles.
She must know every song.
We ask her please to stop
but she just sings, "It Won't Be Long."

And then she croons like Elvis.
She clearly thinks it's cool.
And if we beg her not to
she just belts out, "Don't be Cruel."

She then does Michael Jackson.
It drives us nearly mad.
We have to cover up our ears
because she's singing, "Bad."

She winds up with The Wiggles
or else a Barney song,
and, even worse, she tells us all
that we should sing along.

It's all my fault she does this.
I feel like such a fool.
I wish I'd never brought
my karaoke box to school.

Kenn Nesbitt has a talent, and it is to write poems.

My Bill Board

This is a picture of what my bill board would look like if I was a candidate.  My bill board would have a picture of me and my logo, ACT.  My and my partner Shoal choose to represent Act.

John Key won the votes. I wanted Labour to win. Labour had better campain then national. It is o.k though because John Key would run our country well.

The Longest Hike In The World

We got to Camp and believe it or not we got straight into it, with the longest walk. I would have rather went to sleep or even check out my cabin. That was because I was really tired from our bus ride.

Going up the hill made everyone tired. I wanted to stop but our leaders supported us to keep going. “ Are we half way yet?” I asked Tony (Helper) “No” he replied. I was shocked.

A pile of rocks were waiting for us at the top. As soon as everyone got there,Rita, placed a rock on the pile. Then she began her speech. Her speech was about our journey to the top and what exciting things that is going to come.

Sail,Sail,Sail Your Boat

Our first activity for the day, was sailing and I was really nervous. Peter gave us a choice to go solo, or with a partner. I choose to go with a partner, and my partner Shoal was also a bit anxious.

“Does anyone want to demonstrate?” Peter asked. We were all scared to go up, I could sort of tell by the look on our faces. No one went up so me and Shoal did.

As soon as we got out there, everyone got the hang of it. It was really fun, except for the part when me and Shoal almost capsized. That was scary.

Can't Wait To Go To Camp Bentzon And Kawau Island

Only 1 more week until the year 6 kids are going to Camp Bentzon and Kauwa island. I can’t wait.

Camp Bentzon is in the north cove. To get to camp Bentzon you will have to catch a ferry from Sandspit.

The exciting activities that are going to be taken placed at Kauwa island is the, Confidence course, Fitness trail, Raft making, kayaking and many more. There are a lot of activities here. They are going to be really fun too, especially if it would be your first time (ME).

The one activity that stood out the most would be the confidence course. There are a lot of activities for the confidence course, but one of them is when you stand on two tires and try to balance. Now that would totally bossed up my confidence.

My Challenge at camp is to not break any rules. Even this one, no live trees are to be felled. This means I am not allowed to break any branches of any trees.

I am extremely exited about this, and I am sure everyone else is too. My thoughts in my head are that this might be the highlight of the year.

Tennis Coaching

Tennis is a common sport played in Spring and Summer. We started learning how to play tennis at school and boy was I excited about that. I couldn't wait.

When we got to the courts I felt a little bit nervous and excited at the same time. What if I miss the ball when someone serves it to me? If I did, I would probably be the worst tennis player in history.

Our coach, I mean our professional coach Marcel taught us how to do a forehand. A forehand was really easy. We learned how to do that hit in badminton all ready. All of us were pro's at it.

After learning the forehand we played a rally called King or Queen. It was like a real game of tennis. If you won, you would stay on and challenge another opponent. At the end if you were still the Queen or King you wouldn't have to do the awful punishment, which was 20 star jumps.

Tennis was a game I needed to play more often, because I LOVED it. It really got me going. I can't wait to play tennis again.

Ice Cream Comets

Do you know how too make a comet? Well not the real thing of course. With ice cream, cones, crushed biscuits and sprinkles, room 17 and 16 made comets.

Comets are objects that float in outer space. If a comet is close to the sun it melts. This is because it is made out of dust and ice and surprisingly, it has a tail. A comets tail can be in the front and in the back, but if it is in the front it would most likely be going away from the sun, but if it is at the back it will go towards it.

Step 1: Crush the biscuit by putting it in a bag then get a block and start smashing it.
Step 2: Put a scoop of ice cream in your hand, watch out though it might melt. The ice cream would be the ice.
Step 3: Outside sprinkle the crushed biscuits over it. This is the dust.
Step 4: Put a cone over it. The cone is the tail of you comet. Step 5: Sit back relax and enjoy your ice cream. That is how you make a comet.

When we finished, boy didn't we have a big mess outside. There was crushed biscuits all over our courtyard. Mr Sommerville would probably be the king of mess, if I had to explain him.

Our comets were delicious. I was even scavenging for more. At the end though, most of the kids that had seconds or thirds all felt sick.

Exploring Space

The longest Car Ride In The World

My family and I were heading out west to visit my uncle, and baby sit my little cousin. I was so delighted to see them again.

We hoped inside the car, but not very long my annoying brother started singing. Terrible was the word to describe his singing. My brother was so bad that I could have walked the whole way back, if I was a loud.

I tried to ignore it by telling myself a story. “Once upon a time there were three little pigs and 1 big bad wolf...” Half way through the story I was tired so I stopped.

“I’m hungry, are you?” I asked my brother. I was hungry I was starving, I could have eaten 3 Big Macs at this stage. Then I remembered that there was a fresh orange inside my cousin’s bag, so I ate that instead.

At last we arrived at our destination. I ran outside gave my uncle and baby cousin a big hug.

Tonga Wins Again But This Time Against France

Did you watch the Tongan vs France game? Well if you didn’t then I will tell you about it.

Well, one thing I was impressed by the Tongan team was when they did their Sipi Tau, their war dance. They did it sharp and proud. “They look really scared” my brother laughed.

Game time and the first score was by France. Tonga had great deafens but needed to improve on their attack. Not for long, the Tongan team came back, with them leading of a score of 13-6 in half time.

At the end the Tongan time took all the victory. The Tongan supporters were surprised and extremely happy, while the French team and the fans were guttered.

That is how Tonga won. Surprisingly the score was 19-14 at the end. Even though Tonga is not going to compete in the quarter finals we are definitely going to be competing in the 2015 rugby world cup.

Tonga's Sipi Tau

These are the words for the Tongan Sipi Tau or the war dance. They do the Sipi Tau to challenge the other team like it is a fight and also to scare there opponent. When I am talking about fight I don't mean violence. Here is the Tongan version at the top and the English version down bottom.

Tonga's Sipi Tau:
Ei e! Ei e!
Teu lea pea tala ki mamani katoa
Ko e'ikale taki kuo halofia
ke 'ilo'e he sola moe taka
Koe'aho ni teu tamate tangata
'A e haafe mo e tautua'a
Kuo hu'i hoku anga tangata
He! He! Ei e. Tu
Teu peluki e molo moe foueti taka
Pea ngungu mo ha loto fita'a
Keu mate ai he ko hoku loto
Ko Tonga pe mate ki he moto
Ko Tonga pe mate ki he moto
'Ei e! Ei e!

English Translation:
I shall speak to the whole word
The sea eagle is starved
Let the foreigner and sojourner beware
Today, destroyer of souls I am, everywhere
To the half back and the backs
I have shed my human characteristics
Maul and loose forwards I shall mow
And crunch any fierce hearts you know
I drink the ocean and consume the five
To death or victory my will is fine
That's how Tonga gives to her motto
To her motto, Tonga gives all
To her motto, Tonga gives all
Hi!Hi!

Tonga vs Canada, who will win? Well I think Tonga is.This match is going to be tough, but both team have to step it up. First Tonga will do their chant then Canada will sing their national anthem. It will be on Wednesday (Today). This game will be played at Whangarei. I am predicting that the score is going to be 26-15 with Tonga taking it all.

What We Have Been Learning For Reading

For reading my group the Wekas, have been learning about using clues from the text to read new vocab. We have read a story called When I grow Up. Some of the words or phrase were Legs turned into jelly. Our awesome teacher Miss Garden told us that we had to make a funny cartoon on one of these phrase. “Running for my life” “Legs turned to jelly” “Prise my fingers off” As you can see I chose legs turned to jelly.

What happens after you eat your food?

Have you ever wondered where your food goes after you eat it? Well the year 5 and 6 extension class does. This all started when we were talking about people at Africa. People over there drink dirty water. This is not good for their bodies.

Here is a movie that Litia, Brooklyn, Tyla, Shoal, Chante and myself made. My part in this movie is at the beginning when you eat your food. When you eat your food your salver helps it to brake it down.

I would gave my voice over a rating of 8 out of 10 because it was very clear. I would gave a rating for the whole movie a 9 out of 10. We finished in time and we worked to together as a team.

Parts that I think we need to improve on are editing it properly and focusing on our work not our team works. But I have to say that somethings I did like about our movie is that we used Shrek as our main character and we were not shy to do our sound effects.Hopefully this will tell or even teach you about your digestive system. Sit back and relax.

Badminton At Ptengland School

I was sort of nervous when I waited in the hall with my class. We were waiting for our badminton teacher. When she walked into the hall I started to have butterfly’s in my stomach. Suddenly I was scared.

I found out that there were 3 main hits that you should use to play with. Forehand, this hit is when you want to hit it across your body. Backhand, when you hit it normally. Over head is when you hit it above your head. Our teacher Dona was very kind but, I must say that the hardest skill that she taught me was serving.

I was hitting the shuttle over the net. The shuttle made a whirring sound as it went back and forth, back and forth, until... “OUT!!!” Everyone yelled at me out because I hit the shuttle outside the line. I was disappointed. A few minutes later it was all most my turn again. This time I was determined to win against my opponents.

All the playing made me tired and thirsty. We said bye to Dona since it was her last day teaching us. On Friday we will be having a different teacher. I was going to remember all the skills that Dona taught me and show it to our new teacher.

Will The Rugby World Cup tournament benfit NZ?

I believe that if we host the Rugby World Cup here in New Zealand, good and bad things can possibly happen. The good things are, more money can come into New Zealand which can help Christchurch build buildings and help families. Also visitors will come and when they are hungry or thirsty, they can go to restaurants. This helps restaurants build more business. Some bad possible things that can happen are, when people drink to much they can get drunk, and this might cause fights. Another possible bad reason that things can happen are drugs can be handed around and if the police sees it then they could go to court. This is why NZ as a nation have to keep your eye on the ball.

My Family Flag

This flag represents me and my family. It has seven elements that also represents us. The seven elements are our family moto, be the best you can be, Music, Sport, Church, Family, The cross from our Tongan flag, and last of all our island Tongatapu, were our family comes from.

Vivienne-Our Courtyard Needs A Makeover

Rubric marked by my classmate Kingston.

Our courtyard between room 17 and the hall, needs a makeover. There are many reasons for this. One reason is that fights happen a lot due to crowded conditions in the rest of the playground, and when the fields are close we need more space to play in. This area is also very ugly.

Fights: it is very frightening sometimes when kids get into fights just because it is crowded. There are crowded conditions in the breeze and in the playground area that sometimes starts fights. If we had a makeover than less fights would happen in our school.

When the fields are close we need more space to play in. My partner, Rita and I have, surveyed, researched, talked, emailed and also foundries people to see what they would like in our courtyard. We know what kids want in our courtyard and what we should replace it with or even improve on.

Our courtyard is very hideous, and I have proof. If you have been to our courtyard than you would have seen that there is a big dutch in our grass area. The walls have mud on it because off some little kids. They put there grubby hands on the walls which make them really revolting. There is a drain right in the middle were grass comes out off it. We could definitely entice children to come but because off this, they will not come. If we had a makeover than kids would come.

These where all my reasons for having a makeover and I think our courtyard should have a makeover. Don’t you think?

Information about a little movie called Partly Cloudy

Partly Cloudy

In our class room 17 we did a movie review about partly cloudy.

The characters in partly cloudy are the storks and the Clouds.

This movie is set in the blue sky.

It stars off with storks delivering Babies, Puppies and Kittens to people.

The main problem is that one stork doesn't really like what Mr cloud makes for him to deliver. Sadly the stork goes to another cloud and Mr cloud thinks that he left him, but the stork wanted to find some armor for himself.

This movie ends off happily as the stork comes back to his cloud and they start to work together again.

I would rate this movie 10/10 because it is really funny and it ends off with a happy ending.
